Jen and Rock playing around at the waterfall
On Sunday we woke up and packed up the tent and everything else. Before heading to town we decided to hike up to the waterfall that was an easy hike from the campsite. Once there we enjoyed the icy water playing under the falls and then turned around. On the way down I suddenly broke into hives and couldn’t control my itching. I started to panic as it was clear I was having some sort of allergic reaction but I had no idea to what.

It was very refreshing!
I hadn’t eaten anything yet, so it must have been from a plant I brushed against along the hike. Stupidly I had nothing with me to take. I was trying to control my panic as I knew that would only make it worse. We sped into town to the grocery store and I ran to the children’s chewable benadryl and downed a few. The immediate relief that comes with benadryl is fantastic…though it is matched with an unbeatable drowsiness. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benadryl
After that it was time for some food. I was feeling the effects of the drowsy drug so sat along sipping hot cocoa as Rock and Jen ate. After that we walked Moab a bit and then headed on the road towards Fisher Towers—our next hiking destination.

Epic Fisher Towers
You’ve got to be careful on this Hwy 128 with misleading signs and we ended up taking the road just before the Fisher Towers and ended up on Onion Creek Rd instead. This wasn’t a huge disappointment for me as I was discovering what might become a new favorite area to camp. But it was a bit of a problem for my sister’s very low to the ground car. As the name ‘Onion Creek’ suggests, you are virtually forced to cross the creek around every corner. This is also a popular (and difficult) place to mountain bike.

Once we realized our mistake and turned around the day was at full heat and we got onto the Fisher Tower’s trail around 1:45pm. It was scorching hot but we started along and slowly made our way. Again we took our time and took loads of photos. Rock tagged us lot as the “Lizard paparazzi” as we enthusiastically chased after the perfect lizard photo.

Watched him take apart this bug
We also were able to observe some climbers working their way along and up the towers and even got to see one guy make his summit before we turned back to the car.

Can you spot the climbers up there?
The drive home passed by quickly with only a quick stop in Grand Junction. As always, heading back home from Moab, I felt my spirit refreshed and full of vitality. Moab is such a unique place in this way and holds so many great memories for me that I think I will always go back there when I need to wipe the slate clean.
